What it does well
The hotel's line is all the comforts of home, which in practice means a large bed, a desk for the map and a soaker tub. For a two-night Kananaskis trip the King Room has everything the day needs: somewhere to lay out gear, a fridge for lunches, a safe for the passport you will not carry up Wasootch Ridge.
If you are travelling with a dog, ask in the request. Pets are accepted in a limited number of rooms at $25 per night per pet, so the room type you get may depend on which rooms are pet rooms. The house rules set a $250 fee for pets found in rooms that are not designated for them.
When to choose a suite instead
Move to the Junior Suite if a fireplace in winter matters to you; it also adds a pullout sofa bed. Move to the Jetted Tub Suite if you want a separate bedroom and a two-person tub in the living room. For a short summer trip spent mostly outdoors, I would keep the King Room and spend the difference on a Conservation Pass and a good lunch in Canmore.
A note on noise
Quiet hours under the house rules run from 11 pm to 7 am, and the rules list excessive noise as grounds for removal. The casino and Sidelines run later than that, so if you are a light sleeper, ask the desk to request a room away from the busiest public areas. It is a request the hotel may or may not be able to meet.
