Guest ratings: one number I saw, and no made-up quotes
Plenty of hotel sites invent a chorus of happy guests. I would rather show you the one public figure I read myself, say where it came from, and tell you how to read the reviews behind it.
On 31 October 2026 the Google Maps card for Stoney Nakoda Resort & Casino showed an average of 4.0 out of 5 from 3,416 reviews. Google's own hotel panel labelled it a 3-star hotel. That card covers the whole place, so the reviews mix hotel stays, restaurant visits and casino trips.
What I did not read
I did not read the review texts, and I did not read Tripadvisor, Booking.com or Expedia scores for this guide. That means I am not going to summarise what guests praise or complain about. Any site that does so without having read the reviews is guessing, and a guess dressed up as a summary is worse than nothing.
How I would read the reviews myself
- Filter for hotel stays. On a resort card, a two-line review of a slot machine tells you nothing about the beds.
- Sort by newest. The resort says it is renovating in designated areas; older complaints may be about rooms that have changed.
- Look for the season. A January review and a July review describe different trips here, because Highway 40 and the trails change with the season.
- Search for your worry. Noise, pool, pets, breakfast hours, deposit. Read three reviews that mention it, not thirty that do not.
- Check the date against the rule. If a review complains about something the house rules now cover, the rule is the current fact.
Facts that answer common worries
- Smoke: rooms, the main casino floor and Sidelines are non-smoking; smoking is confined to a ventilated slot room.
- Noise: quiet hours run 11 pm to 7 am under the house rules.
- Late dinner: The Ridge closes at 9 pm with room service after; Sidelines serves food later.
- Deposit: up to $500 by card or cash, returned after the room check.
- Pool: 9 am to 11 pm, included. Details on pool and gym.
When I will update this
Each time I re-check the hotel's pages I will look at the Google card again and change the figure and the date. If I read reviews on other platforms, they will appear here with the platform, the count and the date. My own view is on the verdict page, kept separate on purpose.
